an internship I would reckon and then onto uni
college. major in journalism, journalism management, take courses in fashion management.
Get internship with top publishing company while in college (forget the left coast: in fashion, there is no civilization west of the Hudson River).
Get entry level job at publishing house, work your way up the ladder (play the political game) and voila, maybe 20 years in, you get your shot at being an editor.
Well, USC and UCLA would both be great. It’s not that important where you go to school, but while you’re in school, you’ll want to major in either Journalism, Communications, or English and you would want to be involved in writing and editing for the assorted publications that would no doubt exist at your school (My own university had one newspaper, a couple of magazines and two literary journals). For an internship, you’d want to work for a magazine, preferably a fashion magazine but any magazine internship would give you a huge boost, you would connected to that internship through your university department.
Also, if your school has any courses in fashion or graphic design, taking those as electives would also be helpful for you.
