Why do people cite fashion magazines as against equal rights for women?

When the majority of fashion magazine editors are women? Why do men get blamed when women set the standered for other women?
Then why do men get blamed for it? If other women set the standered, how is it men’s fault?

Maybe because these magazines promote gender and societal stereotypes like being small (thinner and weaker than men), putting so much importance on materialism, liking "girly" things like makeup etc. and having our job (or having our value) be trying to look perfect in order to please or compete with other people.

They don’t give two craps about rights one way or another. However, they can be damaging to women’s self-image, and the fact that its female editors are buying into that to get ahead is pathetic.

You have some interesting answers already. I have always thought that it’s about image and making money. I don’t care about it really and have always dressed as I wish, ie what I consider reasonable for work, home or pleasure. My wife does the same although she does watch the fashions, comments on them from time to time and even asks for my opinion on occasions!
